Christmas Is a Way of Life
It’s more than a season. It’s a feeling we can carry with us all year long.
For some people, Christmas begins when the calendar says December.
For me, it starts a little earlier.
Maybe it’s hearing a Silver Bells in the middle of summer. Finding an ornament that reminds me of Christmases as a kid. Spotting something in a store that I remember from the 90’s. Pulling a favorite decoration out of storage and remembering exactly where I found it or who gifted it to me.
Those little moments are Christmas to me.
And that’s really what Static&Tinsel is all about.
Christmas is a way of life. Really though, Christmas for many of us is life.
Not because I think we should spend the entire year surrounded by Christmas trees and tinsel—although I certainly wouldn't complain—but because I believe the things we love about Christmas don't have to disappear when the season ends.
It’s the joy.
Christmas has a way of making ordinary things feel a little more special.
A cup of coffee in a favorite Christmas mug. A handwritten note from a friend. A familiar song that. A beautifully wrapped gift. A little kindness from a stranger. A memory that suddenly comes rushing back because you smelled something or heard something that reminded you of another time.
We don't have to wait until December to find those moments.
It’s the memories.
That's one of my favorite things about Christmas decorations.
An ornament can be so much more than an ornament.
It might remind you of your first Christmas in a new home. A trip you took with your family. A gift from someone you love. A handmade ornament from your childhood. A tradition that has been passed down through generations.
Some decorations are valuable because they're rare.
Others are valuable because of the memories attached to them.
And sometimes, those are the pieces we treasure most.
It’s the traditions.
Maybe your family makes the same cookies every year.
Maybe you watch the same Christmas movie (for 24 hours straight).
Maybe you drive around looking at Christmas lights. Maybe you put up your tree on the exact same weekend every year. Maybe you have a favorite ornament that has been hanging on your tree for decades.
Traditions don't have to be elaborate.
Sometimes they're the smallest things—the things you do year after year without even realizing how meaningful they've become.
And if you don't have a tradition, you can always start one. One of my favorite traditions is going out for breakfast with my Mom and brother every Christmas Eve. It’s nothing fancy - we’ve gone to Hardees, Bob Evans, Cracker Barrel, and most recently Ihop.
It’s finding joy in the little things.
One of the reasons I love collecting Christmas ornaments is that there is always something new to discover.
A vintage ornament tucked away in an antique shop.
A familiar decoration from childhood.
A beautifully made glass ornament.
A silly little piece that makes you laugh.
Something you never knew existed until you happened to stumble across it.
Christmas doesn't have to be perfect to be wonderful.
Your tree doesn't have to look like it came from a magazine.
Your decorations don't have to match.
You don't need a house full of expensive things.
Fill your home with the things that make you happy.
That's where the magic is.
It’s spreading a little kindness.
Christmas has always reminded us to think about other people.
To give.
To be generous.
To check on someone who might be lonely.
To make somebody smile.
But those things shouldn't be limited to one month of the year.
Imagine what the world would feel like if we carried a little bit of that Christmas spirit with us every day.
A little more kindness.
A little more patience.
A little more generosity.
A little more joy…. What a wonderful world that would be.
And yes, it's perfectly okay to love Christmas early.

If you want to collect ornaments in July, collect them.
If decorating your home makes you happy, decorate it.
There will always be someone who thinks it's too early.
That's okay.
Joy doesn't need a calendar.
Christmas is different for everyone. For some, it's a religious celebration. For others, it's family, tradition, nostalgia, decorating, giving, gathering, or simply the feeling that comes with this time of year.
For me, it's all of those little things that make life feel a little brighter.
And that's why I created Static&Tinsel.
Not just to share Christmas decorations.
Not just to show you an ornament I found.
Not just to count down the days until Christmas.
But to celebrate the feeling behind it all.
Because Christmas doesn't have to be packed away in a box for eleven months of the year.
The lights may come down. The ornaments may go back into their boxes. The tree may eventually come down.
But the joy doesn't have to.
Christmas is a way of life.
And I hope you'll find a little bit of it here all year long.
